Put simply, Graphic Communication is the art of communicating messages through the organisation of images and text. The course has a strong focus on developing a thorough understanding of design principles and encourages students to enhance their skills in observation, problem-solving, and knowledge of contextual studies whilst utilising their own personal attributes of creativity and imagination.
This is available as a two-year A-Level programme.
This course is perfect for students looking for a way to express their thoughts and ideas creatively and might be the perfect solution for those lacking in traditional Fine Art skills. An ideal student might be someone who loves social media and wants to learn more about creating a brand and creating compelling pieces to promote it. They might love package design, web design, or motion graphics.
Students will have the opportunity to explore advertising, illustration, brand identity, packaging, motion graphics, editorial design, and more.
The first year of the course will be spent developing practical skills in the Adobe creative design suite and in more traditional methods such as print making.
In their second year, students submit a Personal Investigation with an accompanying Related Study essay and then create an Exam Portfolio from a choice of topics.
Students enrolling on this course will need 5 GCSEs grade 5 or above including Maths and English or equivalent international qualifications.
For international students who have taken IELTS, we require an overall score of 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 for the reading and writing components.
For international students who have taken IGCSE English (Second Language), we require grade 5 or above.
Although Art at GCSE or IGCSE would be helpful, many students join the course with no qualification in the subject but are able to present a portfolio of work for the College to assess. Students need to possess some practical skills, although specific techniques are developed throughout the course. The ability to draw is an advantage but not essential.
