At Oxford Sixth Form College, we firmly believe that addressing special educational needs (SEN) is not just an obligation but the foundation of providing truly personalised and inclusive education. Every student brings their own strengths, challenges, and aspirations, and our role is to create an environment where they can develop academic confidence and feel valued as part of our community.
As is the case for all our students, supporting students with SEN begins with understanding their unique learning profiles. Whether through tailored teaching strategies or adjustments to the learning environment, our aim is to remove barriers and empower students to achieve their full potential. This commitment to individual care not only nurtures academic success but also builds essential skills for life beyond education.
Despite SEN becoming more widely understood, the size and scale of most mainstream schools makes addressing individual needs of students very challenging. Our dedicated SENCo and Senior Tutors work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the College Leadership Team to ensure that every student has a personalised learning plan and a strong support network to help them throughout their school career.
By providing focused support and tools for students with SEN, we can help them access and benefit from all the same learning opportunities as their peers. At Oxford Sixth Form College, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We foster a culture of empathy, respect, and high expectations, thus ensuring that every student, regardless of their starting point, is equipped to thrive and succeed.
