Our brand new Model United Nations group has got off to a great start this term, recently participating in a two-weekend virtual MUN conference, hosted by Oxford Global.
Students from around the world met virtually to debate a range of issues, with a central theme of
'State Building and Progressive Visions':
- Water as the new oil: discussing the economic measures needed to combat the effects of increasing water scarcity in the 21st century.
- Preventing financial crises after COVID-19
- Indigenous communities around the world and the right to self-govern
- Youth politics
In addition to building on their debating and public speaking skills, our students heard a keynote speech by Jeffrey D. Sachs, Professor of Sustainable Development at Columbia University, and were also given the opportunity to attend Oxbridge admissions workshops, which included insight into the subjects available, as well as valuable application tips.
Our students enjoyed the conference and did extremely well in their debating - here's to the next generation of UN delegates!
